It feels like Christmas in my house

Over the weekend, Ashley and I finally got our Christmas tree purchased, put up and decorated. We always buy a real Christmas tree. We both grew up with real trees and I love the way they smell. It feels like Christmas at my house!! We bought a 7-8 foot tree because we could accommodate that size in our little house. Well, we (or should I say he) got it in the stand and in the house and the top little branch that the angel, star or in our case bow goes on is completely bent over from the ceiling. It was pretty funny so we just left it. You probably can't see it in this picture, but it's bent over.

I just realized that the tree looks like it might be leaning a little to the right. Let's hope it was the camera!! Nothings ever perfect at the Morgan house.

Last year my mom started me a collection of the Willow Tree Nativity Scene. Every year I get a new piece and will eventually pass down to my children.

The Full Effect!!!

Happy Decorating!!!!

Wait......What???

Oh yeah, I got into Physical Therapy School!!!!!!!!! Yeah, I felt the same way........the usual....shock, awe, feeling faint, pee my pants, crying, shaking, screaming, jumping up and down, you name I did it. I got my acceptance letter on Friday afternoon and have yet to come off cloud 9. August 10, 2009 I will start my venture......and become a Gamecock. Ashley has demanded I wear orange every day to class. I demanded a new wardrobe if that was the case........we'll see who will win that one.

Drastic Days

My mother-in-laws birthday was last Saturday (Nov. 22nd) and in honor of her, I have been growing my hair for donation for WELL OVER a year. For those of you who have never grown your hair for a reason, you must have extreme patients. Well, if you know me, you know that patients is not one of my best virtues, but definitely something I am working on. I cut over 8 inches of my hair off last Friday, November 21st. The ponytail of hair had to be 8 inches and my stylist (Nichole) had to shape things up, so it was at least 9 inches. After much anticipation, a few deep breaths, and Nichole trying to keep me from passing out.............the hair was gone. Yes, at first I felt like Matilda with a giraffe neck. It was for a good cause, so just another reason to laugh at myself. If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?

There are two ponytails because I have amazingly thick hair and still with two ponytails, Nichole had to cut each one three times. My mom and I got the lots of hair jean, my brother and dad....not so much!

This is before a major color overhaul and a fixing the crazy ends!!!

This was after everything the next night at a wedding.........it was, or should I stay still is an adjustment. The best picture I could come up with!

So, I am back into growing my hair out, I don't think I will be able to make it next November, so this will be a true test of patience......2 years......just stick with me!!

Happy Birthday Deb!!! And on this same day, was Ashley's oldest brother, Trey's birthday.....Happy Birthday Trey Bird! We love you!

Better Late than Never......

Yeah, so it's a week away from Thanksgiving and I am posting my Halloween pictures. Who cares right? Better late than never........or at least that saying always makes me feel better because I am never on time with anything.

If you can't tell, we were attempting to be nerds, all compliments of the Goodwill. These beautiful pants I am sporting were elastic waistband and came up WAY past my waist.

I didn't realize my husband's face in this picture until just now. Sadly, he wanted to keep his 80's style corduroy pants, but they went back to the Goodwill.

John and Elizabeth as nerds, but really John just looks normal. Elizabeth really needs to work on her nerd face. I actually looked for pocket protectors and couldn't find any.

The Disco King and Queen, Charles and Anna. Charles had a big black fro to wear, but Anna forgot it and he was actually very upset about it. His outfit was compliments of Anna's closet. I am dead serious! Anna had on plastic eyelashes that came with the costume and when her eyes were open they end of the lashes touched her hair line. It was quite something!!

Not that anyone really cares, but......

I made a reference to a yoga pose and I should have put a picture so that you know what I am referring to. So here it is. This is bridge pose.

I know this lady looks pretty ridiculous, but it is a great strengthener for your quads, hamstrings, and buttocks. We held this pose for 3 minutes...............talk about the wobble, wobble and shake shake in the legs!!!

I posted this b/c I had someone tell me that yoga was glorified stretching and I went off on a rant, so I felt as though I needed to explain.

Say It Ain't So.......

Now, I know that I am pretty dramatic when it comes to certain things like TV, but this is something that really upsets me. I went to my favorite yoga class yesterday (Wednesday nights from 6-7:30 every week) only to find out that the yoga studio is shutting it's doors the end of January. I was very sad and the teacher said that she was trying to find somewhere that we could have the class, but as of now things weren't looking good. I look forward to Wednesday nights all week. Not only is it a great workout and de-stresser, I am BY FAR the youngest in the class. I would say that the age range would be from 35-65 (more of them are on the upper end of this range). This totally inspires me when I see women older than my mother doing things that I can't do most the time. And this is definitely not a beginner class............hold bridge pose for 3 minutes without a complaint and then we can talk.

So, I am pretty sad about this and hope that things will work out. If not I will just have to find somewhere else, but when you get used to certain people and places it stinks when things change.

Off the subject, Halloween pictures will hopefully be posted soon.

DVR Madness

Is there a reason why the DVR can only record two shows at one time??? With the technology we have today is it not possible to say tape three shows at one time??? Is that such a crazy thing to ask for?? And if we can only tape two shows at one time and there are three or four that are on at the same time, why can't we rank them?? Just sayin'.....................

I would definitely like to rank my shows......say recording One Tree Hill over Intervention and tape Private Practice rather than Real World/Road Rules. So, as you can tell my FAVORITE show One Tree Hill did not tape this week!! URGH!!! I know I can watch it on the Internet, but it is not the same and the screen is way smaller on my computer and I just want to complain about it. I know if this is the worst thing I have to complain about then I am doing well. So, I'm done being a baby.

What a Weekend!!!!

Let me start with Friday afternoon......my wonderful sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jaime and Bryan, sent me a dozen chocolate covered strawberries to work. They sent them for good luck and I am pretty sure it helped. I have never gotten anything sent to me at work, so after I argued with the mail guy that it wasn't my box, I thoroughly enjoyed them. Also, my friend Liz made me some delicious brownies that had my favorite candy, Caramel Creams, in them. After work, I had to go drop off some things at my other sister-in-law's house (Amy). My niece and nephew were there and had some school projects to work on. I helped paint pyramids and made fire out of clay for a shadow box. I am not that crafty. Jackson and Amy can tell you, I didn't do so well with the fire or canoe, which Amy thought was a hot dog bun. Nonetheless, I had a wonderful time and was able to relax and get my mind off of my big day on Saturday.

My loving husband took me to dinner on Friday night. We sit down at the table to order and we were told that my father-in-law had called ahead and was arranging to pay for everything. He is a sneaky little man!!!!!

Saturday morning Ashley and I go to Columbia to the testing center. I can honestly say that I was not nervous. I took the GRE (we won't say how many times I had taken it previously) and totally exceeded my goal and expectations!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was absolutely ecstatic! I did everything but cartwheels in the parking lot where Ashley was waiting in the car. He was freaking out because I was too busy jumping around to tell him what was going on. It was one of the best feelings I've ever had, aside from my engagement and marriage. Then it was like a whirlwind from then on. Ashley immediately started calling and texting I think everyone we know, so I am sure you all know this already. After the excitement, we got to go see The Day Family and hang out with Smith and Addison. They are absolutely adorable and we enjoyed every minute of it. Next, we were off to see The Rankin Family and hang out with Mr. Carter. He is such a big growing boy, with the most beautiful big eyes I have seen. We enjoyed hanging out with Amber and Carter. We haven't seen them since the babies were born and it was a long overdue visit. Thanks guys for letting come hang out!!!!

Krissee took a picture of Ashley and I with Smith and Addison. You can see it at http://smithandaddison.blogspot.com/

Once we got back to Rock Hill, my wonderful and supportive father-in-law bought Ashley and I a celebratory drink at Harry and Jeans and our awesome friends John and Elizabeth cooked us dinner. Thanks guys!!

I also want to thank everyone else for all the goodies you baked (Elizabeth), goodies you had sent to me (Jaime and Bryan), cards (Heather), and thoughts and prayers. I appreciate every one's love and support.

On Sunday, Ashley and I were both a little lost. For the past nine weeks, I have been in a class all day on Sundays and Ashley just did his thing. Well, yesterday was the first time we were able to be normal and we honestly didn't know what to do with ourselves. I guess this means I have to give my house a thorough cleaning! Oh well.

Fall is in the air.....

I just had to share with everyone the biggest and most beautiful mum I have ever seen. My sister-in-law Jaime bought me this beautiful mum. I have seen this them this big, but they are normally astronomically expensive and I am too cheap to buy them. My thrifty sister paid less than $20. The picture absolutely does not do it justice, but it was taken with my cell phone. (Side note.....I lost the battery charger to my camera) This will be the before picture and when it is in full bloom I will take another picture and let everyone see. This picture is a week old, so we are at partial bloom now so stay tuned.

Oh and for all you crazy Carolina Gamecock fans, it is a maroon/garnet color. That is my favorite mum color, but I was instructed by the hubby that an orange mum must be purchased.

Also, my father-in-law bought me a pumpkin and it is on the step below the mum in the picture (on the left side, you can kind of see it)......and yes, the mum is so big you can't see it.

For those of you who don't know, September was Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Now a little back story to catch you up..........my mother-in-law, Debra, passed away from ovarian cancer after an almost five year constant battle in June 2007. Debra was given 30 days to live when she was originally diagnosed. A little statistic for you, 95% of the women diagnosed with ovarian cancer don't live 5 years after their diagnosis. End backstory

The South Carolina Ovarian Cancer Foundation holds a butterfly release every year on September 30th on the steps of the capital in Columbia. You are supposed to make a wish when you release your butterfly and the butterfly carries your message to your spirit you are remembering in the sky. It may sound cheesy to you, but it was such an amazing experience. Everyone in our family was present and my father-in-law made a donation (purchased a butterfly) for everyone. It was a very inspiring and wonderful time, but also very emotional. Here are a few pictures from the event.

The Family

Amy had shirts made that had the teal ovarian cancer ribbon on them. Thank you Amy!!! If you can see that is my butterfly in my hand on Amy's shoulder. They were beautiful monarch butterflies.

Bryan's butterfly stayed on his finger for a while. I love this picture!

Savannah and Jackson worked REALLY hard at catching butterflies after they were released.

Lastly, Channel 25 News in Columbia interviewed Trey, the Morgan Family Spokesperson.

I think I might have a problem......

Since I am on the TV bit, I think I might have a problem with TV. I think I am addicted! Well, wait, I know I am addicted. That's the first step right, admitting it?? I am currently taking a class/tutor sessions to help me take the GRE to get in to graduate school (Colly, I carry your awesome 90210 bag you gave me to class). It is eight weeks long and there is tons of studying and homework to do. I am very devoted or maybe obsessive it really depends on who you speak to, so I study a lot. However, I do plan my study time around my TV shows. This probably wouldn't be a problem if I didn't watch so many shows. Here's the rundown.....

One Tree Hill (one of my favorites)
90210 (if you know me this is not a surprise)
Dancing with the Stars
Entourage
Brothers & Sisters
Lipstick Jungle
Grey's Anatomy
The Office
Private Practice
The Cleaner
Intervention
The Hills
Real World/Road Rules Challenge
Not counting the One Tree Hill and Beverly Hills 90210 re-runs on the Soap Net that I tape everyday.

So, even though I think I have a problem, I can't do anything about it. I just thought about this last night as I was watching the new 90210 and "taking a break" from studying.

My life is closer to complete

Ashley and I got home from a long weekend with my family in Arkansas last night (pictures and stories from this trip to come later this week) and I turned on the TV before I went to bed and lo and behold we now have the E! channel. You can't imagine how exciting this is for me!!!! Joel McHale was speaking to me (The Soup was on)!! If Comporium has done one good thing during their existence in their monopolizing rein as the only cable company in York County, it is getting E!. More to come later, I just had to let everyone in on the joy in my life. I am pretty easy if you can't tell!

Birthday Frenzy!

The month of August in the Morgan family is a birthday frenzy!! We have four birthdays, Ashley, Savannah, Amy, and Uncle Reb. The normal thing to do for a birthday is a dinner at the restaurant of your choice. Since there were so many, we decided to have dinner in (we like to save money) at Skip's house. Even though it wasn't my birthday, we did eat my favorite meal.....low country boil with shrimp and we spiced it up with some crab claws!!!! For those of you who know me, you know I love to eat and I was in Heaven!!!! When it was presents time, it looked more like Christmas in August. Check it out!

This may not look like a ton of gifts, but let me tell you it was. There were even gifts on the floor.

All the birthday people and Jackson squeezed in

We are big on birthdays in this family. Each person had their own cake/cupcakes to blow out candles. The green cake stand is this really obnoxious stand that spins, lights up and sings happy birthday all at once. I found it in some of my mother-in-law's old things and made it a tradition that every birthday we have to use it. It has become a huge joke that everyone loves!!!

Birthday frenzy is over until it hits in my side of the family in April, we have 5 then. Stay tuned......

Are you ready for some football??!!

Ashley and I recently went to a Panthers pre-season game with our good friends John and Elizabeth. We had an absolute blast tailgating before the game, playing corn hole, and cooking burgers! The game was excellent, the Panthers won!!! Here a few pictures......

Elizabeth and I tailgating

John and Ashley, don't they look sweet and masculine?

This van came through our parking area. It was playing music through some speakers on the outside of the van. All the players had autographed it. There was just an older married couple driving it around to all the parking lots, pretty funny.

I was really very proud of myself for this picture. This was taken from our seats.

Happy Birthday Ashley!!!!

My wonderful husband's birthday was on August 10th. We kicked off his birthday weekend on a Thursday night by having dinner with our friends John and Elizabeth. On that Friday afternoon, our friend Miros and his girlfriend, Whitney, came into town from Greenville. We had a night out on the lake with them, John and Elizabeth, and Chap and Heather. We grilled out on the boat and had an awesome time! On Saturday, Ashley and Miros and a few other friends played in a golf tournament. (Are you getting the hint that he got to do exactly what he wanted all weekend? Aren't I a good wife?) Then on Saturday night was the party! We had a cookout and some friends over to our house. I think everyone had a great time! I know the birthday boy thoroughly enjoyed himself! I had Ashley's best friend Joe make him a birthday shirt that he had to wear all night. It was hilarious!!!

After the cookout at our house, we went to the bar to see Chap play. I have few photos from there, but as you can see I was really consumed with taking pictures of some of my friends and me. I always have good intentions of taking tons of really good pictures and then I just never do.

Chap playing some tunes

My sister Jaime

Whitney and I

Heather and I

So, as you can see, I didn't really take any pictures of the actual party. Sometimes I forget I have a camera. I promise to work on that!

I am a slack blogger......

I know I really struggle at keeping up with my blog. Let me explain a little so I don't seem so terrible........my laptop is older and most of the time a piece of junk. I got a new camera (Thank You Heather!!!) for Christmas that I needed and love! I had to remove the old program that took the pictures off my old camera and install the new program for the new camera. Well, lo and behold, my computer doesn't have enough RAM and I don't know what to do with it. I know I need to take it to someone, but I am scared because I know it will cost plenty of money. Also, my computer is older and more RAM is more expensive for older computers. I am cheap!! So.........I have to get my pictures off my camera by going CVS, Wal-Mart, Rite Aid, etc. and have them put on a CD. So, I like to build up quite a few pictures to put on the CD if I am going to pay $3 for it. I know, it sounds complicated and it sounds like a bunch of excuses and it kind of is. New post coming over the weekend. PROMISE!!!!!

Oh and if anyone has any suggestions about the computer issue, help a sister out!!!

Livin' it up in the AC

Okay, so I know I am horrible at keeping up with my blog, but I do my best. I have computer/camera issues that I haven't gotten fixed yet. On to better things......

I recently spent a few days in Atlantic City with my mom. She was there for a conference and I was there to keep her company and spend her money. It was a great trip for me!! Neither of us had ever been to Atlantic City, but I can imagine it is like a mini Vegas (although we have never been there either). There are two really cools things about Atlantic City. First thing, the Miss America Pageant was held there for years and they are very proud of it. Second thing, the properties in the game Monopoly were all named after streets in Atlantic City, i.e. Baltic Ave, Boardwalk, Park Place, Atlantic Ave, you get the idea. There best things about the AC were tons of shopping and eating, which we definitely took advantage of, and then there was gambling. Being non-gamblers that we are, we each put a $5 bill in a nickle slot machine and won nada. The precise reason why we don't gamble, but we were told by Ashley that it would be a sin to come home without gambling at all.
We stayed at the Sheraton and I would definitely recommend that to anyone. For one, it is not a casino, so it didn't have all the commotion. And also it is on Miss America Way and I just thought that was pretty cool. Yes, I had to be a tourist and have my picture made with the road sign. Yes, a car had to wait on me to cross the road and then they watched and laughed as I posed for the picture. My motto......they don't know me and I will never see them again.

Mom and I definitely did plenty of shopping. We could walk out of our hotel and be right on Michigan Avenue, which is pretty much 3 blocks wide and long of stores. They were all right at our fingertips.

We went and scoped out a few of the casinos and took a few tourist pictures. My favorite was Caesar's because they have this huge pier that is called The Pier Shops at Caesar's (how clever). It is three stories tall and on the bottom floor on the end they have a huge water and light show every hour on the hour. We thought this might be a bust, but I have never seen anything like it. It was really great! On the third floor are restaurants. We ventured to two of them, The Continental and Buddahkhan (I can't spell), where we had crazy good food. The highlights were lobster macaroni and cheese and edamame ravioli. It was all wonderful!!

On our last night in the AC, we went and ate at Bobby Flay Steak. For those of you who don't know, Bobby Flay is a chef on the Food Network and is on two of my favorite shows.....Throwdown with Bobby Flay and Iron Chef America. Well I can't tell you enough how awesome this steak was!!!! We ate until we couldn't eat anymore and then we had to get back to our hotel which wasn't fun, but we made the sacrifice.

Here is mom paying our bill at Bobby Flay Steak...she's so proud!

Acting like a tourist again.....

Lastly, in our hotel was the Shoe Bar. The Shoe Bar was named after all the shoes from Miss America Pageant Parades. There is a parade during the week of the pageant and it was initially just a parade, but some of the contestants were not wearing shoes. I guess the officials didn't like that and required them to wear shoes, but to make it more interesting each contestant had to decorate their shoe and the parade was the time to show it off. Well, here is the shoe of Miss South Carolina 1994. Although it may look tacky, it was much nicer than some of the others.

Well, I have more pictures of the boardwalk and different casinos, but I hate to bore you anymore.

Popcorn Update

FYI....the popcorn machine works like a charm!!!! You can make it as buttery and salty as you want. It really is the best purchase I have made in a really long time. Let me know when you want to come over and have some!!! Sorry, it took so long for the update, I got sidetracked eating popcorn.

My New Toy!!!

For some reason, I have always wanted an old fashioned popcorn on wheels. Well, I am now a proud owner of one. We don't have a home theatre or even a big flat screen TV to go along with it, but we can eat very fresh, movie theatre like popcorn. Ashley told me that it was not right to have such a cool toy and not have the big flat screen TV hanging on our wall to go with it. We will just have to make due for now.

I came across this very cool toy on Saturday while I was shopping with my sister-in-law Jaime at some antique and consignment stores. The popcorn machine was in the very back corner of one of the first stores we went in. I made a comment on how I had always wanted one and just noticed there was not a price on it and figured I couldn't afford it and walked on. Well, several stores and an hour later I decided I needed to go back and ask the price of the popcorn machine. Jaime and I had formulated a plan of what we were going to say so that we could get the best deal possible. I was totally prepared to make the man and offer and work some magic. Well, luckily I didn't have to. I asked him what he would take and it was way lower than I ever imagined. SOLD!!!! It has only been used a couple of times, so he says. I brought it home and cleaned it up and it looks like new. Ashley is currently waiting impatiently to get the popcorn popping under way. Needless to say, if this new toy turns out to be a dud, there will be a few disappointed people at the Morgan house.
My new toy!!!

Summer Fun

I have to say one of my favorite things to do in the summer is go to baseball games, major or minor league. The Charlotte Knights, a Triple A Minor League team for the Chicago White Sox, play about 15 minutes from our house. We normally make it to a couple of games during the summer and have a blast!!! Why is it that ballpark hot dogs are always the best? Of course one of my favorite reasons for going is the food and cold beer. Ashley and I went on Friday night with a couple of our friends and had a great time, even though it looks like in the picture that the boys aren't. They were not very happy that I wanted to take a picture. Luckily, they survived.

Almost Famous

Do you know anyone that has a novel published in a well known bookstore, like Barnes and Noble? Well, I do. My mother's best friend (and a very special friend to me), Sandie, has been writing books for several years. She just recently had her first book published. It is a romance novel and appropriately titled Hotel Romance. After getting over the shock that someone I know so well has a book published and in all major bookstores, I read Hotel Romance and I absolutely loved it!!! It was an excellent book, a very good summer/beach book. I would recommend it to anyone.

When Ashley and I made our quick trip to Arkansas to visit, Sandie was having her first book signing. My mom and I went and it was very cool!!!

Quick Trip Home

So, I know this has taken me forever.......but I am back. I have had some computer issues with getting my pictures off my camera. I am what you would call technologically retarded, but that is a whole another entry. A couple of weekends ago Ashley and I went home to see our family and friends in Arkansas. We had an absolute blast and really needed the R & R, but those trips are just never long enough for me.

Yoga

Today, my very good friend Liz and I attended our very first yoga class. I have always been a little skeptical of yoga just because I knew nothing about it. Well, today I found out plenty and turns out I really loved it!! We attended a beginning yoga class which taught all the basic moves and stances. The class was an hour and fifteen minutes long and we came out of the class and felt great!!! Who knew that stretching so vigorously would make you feel so good? On top of feeling good, it was the best stress reliever I have found. We have now signed up for 8 more classes and plan on attending twice a week for a month. I am very excited and can't wait to see how I feel in a month. So, I challenge all of you, if you never have, to take a yoga class. For those of you that live in the area, check out their website and you are more than welcome to come and try with us!! http://www.therockhillyogacenter.com

Last intro.....

I thought this post would be appropriate since I am introducing people and Mother's Day is coming up this weekend. Ashley's mother, Debra, passed away last July after battling Ovarian Cancer for almost five years. I never really considered her my mother-in-law, you know I hate an "in-law" reference, but more like a real mother and great friend. She was the most inspirational person I have ever and will ever meet. I hope that one day I can be as wonderful a person and make such an impact on so many people's lives as she did. One of my friends told during the funeral how lucky I was. I was totally dumbfounded and just looked at her through my largely swollen red eyes as if she had three heads. She said, "You are so lucky to have a Debra in your life. I will never have someone that special or that even remotely compares to her in my life. You should be lucky and thankful that you had the opportunity to know her and love her." My friend was right and that is what helps me keep going.

A few more intros......

Now that you have been introduced to my side of the family, meet Ashley's family.........The Morgan's. I am pretty sure I married into the best possible family!!!! As you will learn, I don't like the "in-law" reference. I will only use it if I am describing my "in-laws" to someone who doesn't know them.

Ashley's Dad, Skip and Brothers, Trey and Bryan

I refer to them as the Morgan Men. They are all so much alike, but yet very different. Looking at the picture below from the left, Ashley, Skip, Trey and Bryan. Skip is the best father and "father-in-law". My dad lives 12 hours away, so Skip has really assisted in Dad kind of things for me. He takes care of me!! Trey is Ashley's older brother by 11 years (don't be upset if I got that wrong). Trey is our "fix-it" man. He can fix anything and it absolutely amazes me!!! He is a wonderful father (you'll see the kids next), great brother and works harder than anyone I know. Bryan is the middle brother and is older than Ashley by 8 years. Bryan is the one to come to for news, gossip anything you need to know. He might hate that I say this, but he might love celebrity gossip more than me. :) Bryan is a very wonderful man and has the biggest heart I have ever seen. The Morgan Men are it in my book!!!!

My Niece Savannah who is 10

Savannah takes dance and at Christmas got to dance at Disney World with her team. She is fantastic and growing up very quickly. As you can see she got a cell phone for Christmas!!

My Nephew Jackson who is 7.

Jackson plays soccer and is very good!! He is funniest seven year old I know.

And last, but certainly not least.......My Sisters Amy (Trey's wife on the left) and Jaime (Bryan's wife on the right)

I couldn't ask for two better sisters. We all get along very well and are surprisingly alike. I love them both very much! They both hate this picture, but they are awful critics on themselves. :)
